Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a software architecture style that focuses on services across enterprise applications. SOA works best within big corporate IT structures where multiple built-in-silo applications often duplicate their main business functions. SOA bridges business and technology architectures, simplifies IT infrastructure and accelerates the process of transforming business idea to its implementation.

Unfortunately, there is a gap between software architects and developers and Subject Matter Experts (SME). While SME describes business in natural language terms, IT uses architecture diagrams, Unified Modeling Language (UML) and XML, Business Process Expression Language (BPEL) and other very technical artifacts.

We share our approach to integrated software and knowledge engineering bridging business and technology with Semantic SOA. This approach introduces common language (common ontologies) for business and technical audiences and allows subject matter experts (SME) to be more involved in the development process.
